The position is based in Pyramid, approximately 15 km north of Sefako Makgatho Drive in Pretoria. This location, while a bit removed, offers unique advantages for those seeking a change from the urban grind in a serene, farm-like setting.

The Health & Safety Manager will ensure compliance with Food Safety standards across all companies within the group (from the abattoir/s to distribution centres).

This role involves overseeing Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) teams across all sites, preparing for and assisting in Food Safety audits, and reporting on trends to Top Management. The manager will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining comprehensive OHS systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Food Safety and OHS teams across all operational sites.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of Food Safety audits.
  • Develop and maintain trending reports for presentation to Top Management.
  • Design, compile, and implement OHS systems, including organizing training, official appointments, risk assessments, building Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and conducting meetings and oversight of contractors.
  • Conduct training sessions on Food Safety and OHS best practices.
  • Manage CAPEX for service suppliers.
  • Handle all retail customer complaints related to product safety.
  • Oversee the Quality Assurance manager for the distribution centers, including the development and implementation of food safety systems.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a similar field.
  • Certification in ISO 22000/FSSC 22000 and HACCP.
  • SAMTRAC, ISO 45000, or a similar OHS certification.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of food safety standards and OHS regulations.
  • Proficiency in risk management and compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple sites.

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires traveling between various company sites.
  • The role involves long hours to meet the demands of the job.
